Google Trends: What was going on back in April?
I was looking at Google Trends this morning and noticed that there was a peak on some of the more popular Catholic websites during the month of April.
The reason for this peak is that Pope Benedict XVI was making his first visit to the United States (April 15-20, 2008).
So the question is, what can we tell from online stats? Well, we can certainly tell when certain websites peaked. It takes a little research though, to find out what was happening in the World during the peak.
Here are a couple helpful ways to help you figure out what people were interested in during a specific point in time.
- Search Google Hot Trends on or around the peak date, to see what people were searching for.
- Do a search for “news” followed by the month of the peak date in your favorite search engine. It helps if you put a descriptive word before “news,” for example, I searched “Catholic News April.” If you know the peak happened on a Techy site, you might search “Tech News October.”
- Use Technorati to do a keyword, url, or tag search.
